- Whiskey Cocktails

The Whisky Sour is a cocktail that sounds simple- and it is. But it’s also sophisticated, with an indescribable sharpness, leaving your taste buds tingling long after you’ve demolished your beverage. The Whiskey Sour is a cocktail for those who want to look good while they’re at the casino. We’re thinking poker players and Blackjack pros – it’s a sipping drink so you won’t get too drunk while playing either. Want to make your own? Of course you do. Here’s how!
This recipe makes one Whisky Sour cocktail. To make more than one, multiply the ingredients by the appropriate amount e.g. by five for five cocktails.
For this cocktail you will need:
– 180 ml of whisky
– 160 ml of sugar syrup (made separately)
– 120 ml of lemon juice (from a bottle or from lemons- about 4- the choice is yours)
– 120 ml of lime juice (ditto above- again, about 4 limes makes this amount)
– Ice cubes
– Maraschino cherries
– A cocktail shaker
For the sugar syrup you will need:
– 200g of caster sugar
– 240 ml of water
Method for the sugar syrup:
Pour the sugar and water into a pan and let them reach boiling point. Once they have, allow the mixture to simmer until all of the sugar has dissolved. Chill in the fridge before using in the cocktail. You could buy sugar syrup if you didn’t want to make it, but where’s the fun in that?
Method for the cocktail:
First, fill up a cocktail mixer to about half way with ice. Next, mix up the liquids- so the whisky, the sugar syrup, the lime and the lemon juice- and pour into the cocktail mixer alongside the ice, until the mixer is full by about two-thirds. Shake up the mixture really well and then pour into cocktail glasses. Add the Maraschino cherry as a garnish and serve to your guests in style.
